Romero Publishes for AIA; Features Rio Rico Volleyball
Senior, Christina Romero., was approved last month as a Sports Information Director (SID) by the AIA. In partnership with the Rio Rico High School athletic department, Christina will be tasked with covering not only Rio Rico athletic news stories but also athletics in other southern Arizona high schools.

Great learning is happening in the CTE Engineering program. Today, students actively engaged in testing their Protoboards and Resistor using the AC-DC Electrical Trainer. They demonstrated strong understanding and application of electrical concepts through hands-on experimentation. Special thanks to Ms. Cardenas for providing meaningful, real-world learning experiences.

Earlier this week, Superintendent Verdugo and our Governing Board Members recognized the spectacular artwork created by SCV35 students. These talented artists represented San Cayetano Elementary School, Calabasas School, and Rio Rico High School.
A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated principals, art teachers, and parents for supporting and inspiring our young artists!
Special congratulations to Emely Ramirez, whose artwork has been selected to be featured on items such as aprons and coasters during the upcoming Arizona Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (AZALAS) Conference in November.

Alumni Watch: Alexis Bermudez ('99)!
Yesterday, head volleyball coach and RRHS Class of 1999 alumni, Alexis Bermudez, had the honor of placing the 2025 sticker on the volleyball program's region championship banner. This season, Coach Bermudez, led the program she played for from 1995-1999 to its first region title in school history! The banner was later presented to the team following its victory over Cholla last night. Hawk Pride!

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) visited the Rio Rico High School Law and Public Safety program, providing students with valuable insights into career opportunities within the department. RRHS alumna Itzel Jacobo returned to speak with her former classmates about the pathways to obtain a position with DPS, sharing her personal experiences and professional journey. A special thank you to all DPS staff for their continued support of our school and students , we truly value and appreciate our strong partnership. Rio Rico High School JROTC cadets conduct a 1 hour class to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders of the Mountain View Elementary School students. The purpose of this event was to teach the students how to raise and lower the FLAG while rendering respect to the Colors as well as how to fold and unfold the flag. Special Thanks to LTC Roque and 1SG Moore for connecting with our elementary students.

Rio Rico High School Engineering students participated in the Racing the Sun Workshop held in Tucson, Arizona. The event focused on solar-powered vehicle design, engineering principles, and problem-solving skills. This experience not only enhanced their technical knowledge but also inspired them to continue exploring careers in engineering.
